How NOC codes are used in an LMIA application
The National Occupational Classification is the Government of Canada's system for describing occupations. The code you select drives the prevailing wage shown on Job Bank, the advertising requirements for the position, and how Service Canada assesses whether the duties described match a real occupation.
Choosing the right code
Match on duties, not on job title. Internal titles rarely line up with NOC unit group names, so read the lead statement, main duties and employment requirements for each candidate code and select the one that most closely describes the actual work.
Why an incorrect code is a problem
A mismatched code can produce the wrong prevailing wage, the wrong stream assessment and inconsistencies between the advertisement, the job offer and the application — all of which are visible to Service Canada.
